The @floripa_26 project transforms Florianópolis into an open-air historical and cultural experience.

Anyone who lives in or visits Florianópolis knows that the city offers much more than just beaches. In 2026, an innovative educational proposal invites visitors to look at the capital of Santa Catarina from a new perspective, combining history, technology, and heritage in an experience that transforms the city into a true cultural itinerary.

The @floripa_26 project, developed in State Institute of Educationçãthe (IEE) and conceived by the History professor Gil Karlos Ferri, arises from the coincidence of three significant historical dates that fall within the same year: the 300th anniversary of the old Desterro (1726), the 200th anniversary of modern photography, associated with Joseph Nicéphore Niépce, and the 100th anniversary of the Hercílio Luz Bridge.

The project's name directly reflects this convergence of temporalities and also the language of social media, since the students share their work in digital format. The proposal functions as a true historical immersion in the city, bringing young people and the community closer to local heritage.

The initiative invites 3rd-year high school students to participate in a historical-photographic marathon, which includes preparatory classes and a field trip to the... Hercílio Luz Bridge, one of the city's main landmarks. There, students produce original photographs that represent three dimensions of time: the three-hundred-year-old city, the two-hundred-year-old technology, and the century-old heritage.

More than just a school exercise, the activity transforms the outing into a cultural and interpretive experience. The city begins to be observed with a different perspective, where landscape, history, and memory intertwine. This proposal directly aligns with the mission of the Floripa Guide, which since 1996 has been gathering information about leisure, culture, and history of the island for residents and visitors.

The project also focuses on contemporary language, with the production of short videos in the style of social media, combining images and captions created by the students themselves. This stage broadens the reach of the productions and brings historical knowledge closer to the digital daily lives of young people.

The impact of the experience is perceived by the students themselves. “I always had the idea that education should always be as intuitive and profound as possible, so that the knowledge we should acquire reaches us in a natural way, as curious and fascinating as it is, and, keeping in mind that this is not always possible within a classroom for various reasons, going out and seeing the bridge and its history up close is exactly what makes learning happen. I believe that this is what keeps teaching alive forever,” says Gustavo Rodrigues de Oliveira, from class 309 of the IEE.

By offering an experience that combines walking, observation, photography, and historical interpretation, @floripa_26 establishes itself as an experience that goes beyond traditional teaching. For those seeking a deeper understanding of Florianópolis, the project reveals that the city is not just a tourist destination, but also a territory rich in stories, memories, and meanings that continue to be constructed in the present.
