The Universe of Florianópolis Carnival is the theme of Anselmo Arlotta's paintings

The artist Anselmo Arlotta, an economist by training and with a long career in the Florianópolis carnival, opens the exhibition “Folia II” at Galeria Lama. With free admission, the opening will take place at 19 pm. The exhibition brings together 11 acrylic on canvas paintings, bringing the energy and dynamism of Carnival in fluid lines and vibrant colors. Curator Chris Ribeiro highlights that Arlotta’s paintings capture the frenzy of the festivities, the warmth of the crowds and the essence of Brazilian popular culture.

The works portray iconic characters from Florianópolis' street carnival, such as masked people, drum queens, baianas and traditional street groups, including Berbigão do Boca and Bloco dos Sujos. The exhibition will be open to visitors until March 29 at Galeria Lama, in downtown Florianópolis. This is the second edition of the project, following the first exhibition “Folia”, held in 2023 at Galeria Itaguaçu +Arte. As part of the program, on February 22 there will be a Carnival Ball with DJing by Jean Mafra and a costume contest, with prizes to be won on site.

Born in Rio de Janeiro and living in Florianópolis since 1976, Arlotta began his artistic journey in the 1970s and furthered his studies with masters such as Jairo Schmidt and Lourival Pinheiro. His career includes participation in the third Goiás Art Biennial and several exhibitions throughout Brazil. A self-described 'anarchist' painter and a lifelong learner, he uses painting as a means of expression and interpretation of the world around him, consolidating his own style that blends tradition and contemporaneity.
