O Matutá Cineclube shows the Swedish film for free “Häxan – Sorcery Through the Ages” at 19pm this Thursday, August 08, 2024, in the auditorium of the Victor Meirelles Museum (Ibram/MinC). The 1922 feature film combines fiction and documentary to cover the evolution of witchcraft, from its pagan roots to the hysteria that occurred in Eastern Europe.

The Santa Catarina short film “Espero-te ao Fim dos Tempos” (2023), directed by Julia K. Rojas, will also be screened, which addresses the story of the oldest resident of the Trindade neighborhood, in the region of the Federal University of Santa Catarina. The event will close with a debate with historian Cauana Harz, currently a master's student at PPGH-UFSC.

Matutá, an itinerant film club awarded the 2023 Catarinense Cinema Award – Paulo Gustavo Edition, holds fortnightly sessions, all with the theme of “fantastic cinema”. Organized by monthly cycles, it proposes the theme of “Witches in Horror” for the month of August. The purpose of the film club is to bring the public closer together and democratize access to genre cinema. For this reason, the sessions, always free, take place in an itinerant format in the East Center of Florianópolis, a privileged and easily accessible location for the capital's population.
