The CineSonora Film Club will show on June 4th, at 19:30 pm, at the Gilberto Gerlach Cinema of the Centro Integrado de Cultura (CIC), the documentary “Clementina”, by Ana Rieper, which celebrates the singer's career.
Clementina de Jesus. The documentary screening is being held in partnership with the IN-EDIT Brasil festival and the Museum of Image and Sound (MIS/SC) and will have LSE and Libras subtitles on the screen, and a Libras interpreter during the conversation. Admission is free, with tickets being distributed one hour before the screening.
With current testimonies and archival footage, the documentary records the stories and legacy of Clementina de Jesus, whose talent was only recognized at the age of 62 for the quality of her voice and her repertoire of Afro-Brazilian music. The film also reveals the elements that consolidated Clementina's singing as the missing link between Brazilian culture and her African roots.
The post-session chat features as a guest singer, samba artist and doctoral student in music education Elô Gonzaga, who also presents her own work in the opening Santa Catarina music video, with
song “Meu Canto: As Damas do Samba”, where he pays homage to Clementina and other samba divas.
The 2025 season of the CineSonora film club is carried out with resources from the Santa Catarina Cinema Award - 2024 edition of the Santa Catarina Culture Foundation (FCC), and the support of the Florianópolis Franklin Cascaes Cultural Foundation, via the Paulo Gustavo Law of the Ministry of Culture.
