Winner of the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival and 1st place on Time's best of 2023 list, as well as a strong contender for the Oscar for Best International Film, 'Autumn leaves' debut at Paradigm Cine Arte. The program is available until next Wednesday, January 24th, in the 20:50 pm sessions.
The Finnish comedy-drama film is directed and scripted by Aki Kaurismäki. The narrative follows the story of Ansa (Alma Pöysti), a supermarket stocker who lives a rather boring life, and Holappa (Jussi Vatanen), a former alcoholic.
When the two accidentally cross paths at a karaoke bar on a random night in Helsinki. Automatically attracted to each other, they decide to go out on a date and, perhaps, begin an unlikely relationship that could be the solution to ward off their existential loneliness - but a series of adversities and misunderstandings make the two end up drifting apart. . The question that hangs in the air is: Are we worthy of a romance beyond survival and needing to pay bills?
