Entries for the 27th International Film Festival Florianópolis Audiovisual Mercosul - FAM 2023 runs until the 21st of July. Among the categories, the Work in Progress Show (WIP) completes five years in the festival's programming and is a highlight for filmmakers with projects in the finalization process.
Part of the schedule of the 7th Mercosur Co-Production Meeting – ECM, which is also open for registration, the WIP Show shows the public the first cut of films in the post-production process. In addition to the filmmakers having the opportunity to follow the public's first reactions to the project, they also compete for the award.
Submitted projects must be feature films, with a minimum duration of 70 minutes. Fiction films and documentaries from Mercosur and associated countries (Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela) are accepted. The theme is free, but Associação Cultural Panvision, which organizes the Festival, gives preference to works that generate debate on social, environmental and economic sustainability.
Mostra WIP made its debut at the 23rd FAM, in 2019, the year in which the Festival broke the record in the number of entries. The modality had six films selected that year, three fiction and three documentaries. The following films have already won the Mostra: El Árbol Rojo, by director Joan Gómez Endara; Look at them, by Tatiana Sager; Las Fronteras se Movian, by Marina Belaustegui Keller; and, in the most recent edition, Os Sapos, by Clara Linhart.
As pointed out at the FAM 2022 awards by the executive producer of Panvision, Tiago Santos, the impact of the market meeting is reflected in many films, participating in the ECM and enrolled in the WIP Show, which end up returning in later editions of the Festival, already finished. Recently, Panvision opened registration for ECM+LAB 2023 in the Player, Listener, Listener+Project Library and Business+LAB categories. The in-person stage of the event takes place during the week of FAM 2023, from September 22nd to 24th.
