Floripa Chess Open Fort Atacadista Festival – 10th edition

Consolidated as the biggest chess festival in Brazil, the Floripa Chess Festival reaches its tenth edition in 2024. Sponsored by Fort Atacadista, the event has a record total prize pool of R$ 75 thousand reais, and dozens of simultaneous events, with disputes main events at Lira Tênis Clube, in the Center of the Capital, where the competition has always taken place. Among the new features, a knockout style Chess Cup will be held, as well as a simultaneous doubles tournament, events to encourage the practice of chess for children and provide more free time for players to enjoy the city and all its beauties of the capital of Santa Catarina. O 10th Floripa Chess Open Fort Wholesale Festival starts on Friday (19/01) with special events, the 3rd Floripa Chess Congress and the 5th Floripa Blitz Satellite. The main tournament, the 10th Floripa Chess Open, starts on Saturday (20/01), at 20pm at Lira and continues until Sunday (28/01).

With the aim of encouraging the participation of women in chess, the second edition of the South American Women's Chess Meeting will also be held on Friday (26/01) with free entry. As well, the main event will have as Chief Referee, Sabrina de San Vicente, from Uruguay, with renowned international experience.

To date, the Festival has received more than 440 registrations with representatives from Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Norway, Germany, Australia, Chile, Spain, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Syria, Uruguay, the United States and Venezuela. There are also players from almost 26 Brazilian states. This year's special guest is Norway's third best player, Grandmaster (GM) Aryan Tari, who is among the best chess players in the world's chess elite.
