The sculptor from Rio Grande do Sul Jesivan da Silva presents the exhibition “Uma Ponte Para A Sustentabilidade” at Galeria Itaguaçu + Arte, at Shopping Itaguaçu, until July 1st. The artist uses materials that would have no other purpose than to be discarded to create his works. The exhibition features 15 sculptures, made with pieces from the renovation of the Hercílio Luz Bridge, in Florianópolis, seeking to reconnect the object with people.
Using the technique driftwood, the artist creates unique items from cinnamon and grapia wood, rescued from demolitions, incorporating metal and other centuries-old materials, enhancing the marks of time in his works. Through a lot of research and specific machinery, he transforms waste into precious items, using elements such as certified Italian gold to accentuate the contrast between old and new.
The highlight of his work is the use of materials from the restoration of the main postcard of Florianópolis, reopened in 2019 after three decades of closure. During the renovation of the bridge, several parts were removed and left in storage. The artist, with an innovative vision, proposed to the government the transfer and certification of these materials, transforming them into works of art that evoke affective memories and new connections for the community.
The Itaguaçu + Arte Project honors and promotes local artists curated by Ateliê Chris Ribeiro Produções at each monthly exhibition. The exhibition is open for viewing on Floor L2 of Shopping Itaguaçu, with free access. For more information, check out the mall's social media.
