After a few months of closure due to the demolition of neighboring buildings, the Victor Meirelles Museum (Ibram/MinC) reopens at 19pm on March 22, 2024 with the inauguration of the exhibition “In principle, every house is foreign”, which is part of the program of the Visual Marathon for the Florianópolis Cultural Marathon. Two other exhibitions are also part of the exhibition and will take place simultaneously at the Pedro Paulo Vecchietti Municipal Art Gallery – “When the body finally finds a place” – and at Largo da Alfândega – “Exercises for the night and for the day”. The exhibitions bring together works in different media and languages, by invited artists selected from an open call. With titles inspired by the poems of Ana Martins Marques (1977, MG), they encompass the idea of transformation – of time, intimacies, subjectivities, collective, social and resistance issues.
The curatorship is by Fran Favero and Francine Goudel, with promotion and organization by the Instituto Maratona Cultural. Visitation is free and takes place from Tuesday to Friday from 10 am to 18 pm and, on Saturdays, from 10 am to 15 pm, except holidays, until April 20th. Exceptionally for the Marathon, the MVM will be open on March 23rd and 24th, Saturday and Sunday, from 10am to 19pm. Works in painting, textile art, photography, video, objects and installation by eight artists and a collective will be on display. The exhibition includes Amanda Melo da Mota, Bruna Granucci, Claudia Lira, Coletivo If this street were mine, Dariane Martiól, Fabíola Scaranto, Juliana Hoffmann, Nita Monteiro and Yone Araujo.
This exhibition, according to the curators, finds the idea of transformation through the cadence of time, a state of suspension that allows one to travel through the itinerary of addresses. The works disturb the terrain of intimate space and expose what builds the foundation of where we live, a place of refuge, but also of dispute, a place of constant disconnection and adjustment between what is our own and what precedes and surpasses us. . The point of view of women artists is highlighted, each with their own process, creating an invitation to enter what is familiar, but about to be transformed.
