Bongar Group (PE) and Maracatu Arrasta Ilha

Holders of a peculiar, unique sound, the group bongar (PE) is this Friday's attraction. Who signs the production is the Maracatu Drag Island, which also takes over the musical opening of the night.

Bongar was founded in 2001 with the purpose of showing the Xambá culture and spreading the peculiar beat of Coco da Xambá. They rescue and promote the Xambá culture and the traditional coconut culture that has been taking place in the house for over 40 years, every June 29th. The members of the group are part of the Nação Xambá do Quilombo do Portão do Gelo, in Olinda, the only one of this African lineage that is known in Brazil.

It brings together the traditional festivities of Terreiro Xambá, a sacred place of worship to the Orixás and Eguns, at Portão do Gelo, in Olinda. In Bongar's repertoire, loas and compositions created from the group's daily life in the Xambá community. Keywords for this work are: Art, spirituality and a lot of strong rhythm. The components have musical influences in the universe of popular manifestations, such as coco da Xambá, maracatu, ciranda, caboclinho, bumba-meu-boi, frevo and candomblé.

The group has recorded two albums: 29 de Junho (in allusion to the Coco da Xambá festival) and Chão Batido Coco Pisado; and recently recorded their first DVD.

Grupo Arrasta Ilha has existed for twelve years in Florianópolis and aims to spread the culture of Maracatu de Baque Virado, or Maracatu Nação, which is a popular urban game with a strong religious nature, found in Recife, Pernambuco. It is a manifestation of African origin inserted in the carnival cycle. It symbolizes, among other things, the coronation of the kings of the Congo, carried out in the form of a procession. The procession is accompanied by a percussion orchestra, formed by alfaias, abês, ganzás, atabaques, taróis and gonguê, in addition to a solo voice and the voice choir.
