The band Skrotes returns to Cinema Gilberto Gerlach, at the Centro Integrado de Cultura (CIC), to present their show in which they perform the soundtrack live for the film "Nosferatu", from 1922. The new performance will be on October 27th, at 17 pm and 19 pm, with tickets on sale at Sympla website.
A classic horror film that marked the history of German expressionism, the feature film “Nosferatu” had its original soundtrack lost and recomposed by an orchestra decades later. Now, it gains a new sound in the project of the trio Skrotes, who perform the soundtrack of the film directed by Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau, with a simultaneous screening of the film.
The project can be considered an educational activity for the public, since it allows them to understand and experience cinema as it was made a century ago. Founded in 2009, the instrumental trio Os Skrotes, made up of bassist Chico Abreu, keyboardist Igor de Patta and drummer Guilherme Ledoux, is recognized for its experimentalism and sound deconstruction. However, the band says that producing a new soundtrack for the film “Nosferatu” was one of the biggest challenges in the group’s career.
About the movie
“Nosferatu” is a film adaptation of Bram Stoker’s novel “Dracula,” and tells the story of a vampire, Count Graf Orlock (Max Schreck), who is selling his castle in the Carpathian Mountains to move to Bremen, Germany. The count, who falls in love with the young woman married to the real estate agent, Ellen (Greta Schröder), spreads terror in the German city. “Many people are unaware that in the early days of cinema there was a technological limitation that prevented the soundtrack from being added to the film. The session provides a journey back in time, an immersive experience. What at the time was a limitation, today makes a work unique. It is cinema reclaiming its own history.
