5th Brazil Film Festival

Florianópolis will host the 5th Mostra Brasil de Cinema (Brazilian Film Festival), which will take place at Praça Bento Silvério, in Lagoa da Conceição, from November 12th to 15th, uniting diversity, inclusion, and art as a tool for transformation.

Free and open to the public, it combines film productions, hip hop, and cultural workshops, in addition to a grand closing show with Rincon Sapiência, one of the leading names in Brazilian rap.

Created from the Cinema in the Favela project in 2007, the exhibition aims to democratize access to audiovisual media and promote the artistic expressions of the communities.

Awarded the Cruz e Sousa Medal of Cultural Merit, it brings together cinema, music, and social debate, and strengthens the dialogue between the center and the peripheries.

The event is on a first-come, first-served basis (limited to 250 people).

Special programming

Starting at 19h, Film screenings are followed by discussions on themes of affection, resistance, ancestry, and social justice.

Among the highlights are:

White House, by Luciano Vidigal — the first Black director to win the Rio Film Festival and currently pre-nominated for the 2026 Oscars;

A Wolf Among the Swans, which follows the inspiring journey of dancer Thiago Soares, from street breakdancing to the Royal Ballet in London;

Milton Bituca Birth, a portrait of Milton Nascimento's farewell tour; 

my, about the struggle of a young riverside woman against gender-based violence; 

A woman thinking, the first short film produced exclusively by Yanomami women;

Hutumosi Kerayuwi – The Fall of the Sky, a film about the knowledge and rituals of the Yanomami people.

There will be free workshops on 15 am to 18 am, focused on training and knowledge exchange, with AfroReggae Audiovisual, led by director Paulão Costa.

Additionally, there will be activities with Marcelinho Backspin, one of the pioneers of breakdancing in Brazil, reinforcing the connections between cinema and street culture.

In addition, the Circus Fever group will also participate with circus workshops aimed at children. Registration can be done through the website.

Closing with Rincon Sapiência: rap as a powerful force.

With a consolidated career spanning more than a decade, rapper, producer, and activist Rincon Sapiência takes the stage on November 15th. to 21h30.

Known for his sharp lyrics and Afro-futurist aesthetic, he brings hits such as Spearhead (Free Verse), The Thing Is Black e Love and Samba, tracks that blend rap, funk, samba and African rhythms, in an urban and ancestral sound.

The artist uses music as a tool for raising awareness and valuing Black identity. His debut album, Galangal Free (2017), was chosen as one of the best of the year by media outlets such Rolling Stone e The Guardian.
