Helena Fretta Galeria de Arte, in Florianópolis, promotes the launch of the “Língua Louca” catalog by artist Letícia Cardoso on July 5th. An exhibition with works by the artist will open on the same date. The event, with free entry, starts at 19pm.
Letícia explains that “Língua Louca” articulates a language that moves across different supports and materials, and is contaminated by content from contemporary visual arts, psychoanalysis and feminism.
The project, which was approved by the Florianópolis Municipal Culture Incentive Law, promoted an exhibition at Espaço Paulo Gaiad, at the BADESC Cultural Foundation, in Florianópolis, and two workshops at Casa de Passagem, which welcomes women victims of violence, in Florianópolis. “These actions were carried out in January 2024 and now it’s time to launch the project catalogue”, highlights Letícia.
In the publication, which has a graphic design by Tina Merz, there are some of the artist's works and texts, written between 2006 and 2024, by researchers, writers, filmmakers, artists, psychoanalysts and curators who have followed Letícia's production over the last 20 years. They are texts by Adriane Hernandez, Cristiana Tejo, Fernando Lindote, Jailton Moreira, Josimar Ferreira, Lucila Vilela, Letícia Cardoso, Marta Inés Arabia, Raul Antelo, Taoana Padilha, Thays Tonin and Victor da Rosa.
The project also had support from individuals and companies, and on the launch day there will be free distribution of the catalogue. The Helena Fretta Galeria de Arte is located at Rua Presidente Coutinho, 532, in the Center of Florianópolis, and the exhibition with works by the artist Letícia Cardoso can be visited free of charge from Monday to Friday, from 10am to 18pm and on Saturdays, from 10am to 13pm, until July 20th.
Conversation with the artist
On Saturday, July 20th, starting at 10:30 am, there will be a chat with the artist and professor and critic Raul Antelo, who wrote the catalog's prologue. During the meeting, Letícia will talk about her research and the processes of the “Língua Louca” project.
about the artist
Letícia Cardoso is a visual artist represented by Galeria Helena Fretta and, currently, a collaborating professor of Painting at UDESC. Graduated in Visual Arts from UDESC in 2001, master in Visual Poetics UFRGS in 2005 and PhD in Visual Arts from UDESC in 2022. Participated in the 32 Panorama das Arte Brasileira (2012), awarded the Iberê Camargo Exchange Scholarship for artists, in Austin , Texas, (2009); by the Rumos Itaú Cultural Program in (2001/2003), among others.
