There will be a free screening and discussion of the film "Kasa Branca" by Luciano Vidigal, with free popcorn and soda, on Wednesday, November 19th, at 19 PM, at SINJUSC (located on Avenida Mauro Ramos, in downtown Florianópolis).
The film tells the story of Dé, a Black teenager from the outskirts of Chatuba, Rio de Janeiro, who receives the news that his grandmother, Almerinda, is in the terminal stage of Alzheimer's disease. With the help of his friends Adrianim and Martins, he faces the world and enjoys her last days with her.
Award-winning and critically acclaimed, Kasa Branca is on the shortlist to represent Brazil at the 2026 Oscars. It portrays the favela as a space of affection and care, and prompts reflection on the strength of friendships, culture, and inequalities at different stages of life.
It is rated for audiences 16 and older. The screening is a production of "Fazendo Escola," as well as an initiative of the project "Sobre Viver: O Cinema do/a Trabalhador/a" (About Living: The Cinema of the Worker).
