Now children over 6, teenagers and adults have the opportunity to learn more about sea turtle conservation in Tamar project, through the program Biologist for a Day.
The objective is to provide participants with a day of monitoring the routine of the Tamar team - including environmental awareness actions, animal care, among other activities. Each participant can also experience all the activities carried out in the program for visitors, having exclusive access to the backstage.
Projeto Tamar began in 1980 to protect sea turtles in Brazil and carries out most of the actions described in the National Action Plan for the Conservation of Sea Turtles in Brazil, coordinated by ICMBio/MMA. The Project also works on scientific research, protection and management of the five species of sea turtles that occur in the country, all of which are threatened with extinction. Tamar's actions also contribute to protecting about 1.100 kilometers of beaches and it is present in 26 locations, in feeding, spawning, growing and resting areas for sea turtles, on the coast and oceanic islands of the states of Bahia, Sergipe, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Norte, Ceará, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Santa Catarina.
