The duo from Santa Catarina Pirate Berry takes to the stage at the Armação Theatre this week for three consecutive nights - June 17st, 18nd and 19rd - to present the release of the EP "Chiaro Scuro," produced by Duda Medeiros and featuring organ, synthesizers, and electric piano by Maestro Andrey Garcia. The shows will include the new tracks "Coitos" and "Crimson," as well as other original songs, including the eponymous single "Chiaro Scuro," and special guest appearances by Nico Nicodemus on flute. Before each show, at 19 PM, there will be a vernissage by visual artist Alexandre Schadeck, responsible for the EP cover art. The shows begin at 20 PM, and tickets are available on the Sympla website.
The minimalism in the formation and the maximalism in the sonic delivery dictate the tone of "Chiaro Scuro". Known for fusing the rawness of rock with the improvisational freedom of jazz and psychedelic funk/soul, Adriano “Baga” Rotini (down) and Leandro “Pirata” Rosa (drums) explore dramatic textures and deep contrasts on the new EP. On the road since 2012 and with a history of remarkable performances on the independent and university circuit in the South of the country — in addition to the acclaimed album Passarinho Soul —, Baga-Pirata solidifies its creative maturity.
Inspired by the Renaissance artistic technique that uses the strong contrast between light and darkness to give depth to the work, "Chiaro Scuro" functions as a musical metaphor for current times, encapsulating the essence of the band: an organized "duo-chaos" where the density of distorted bass lines and the unpredictable paths of the drums cut through the calm with surgical precision. “Our quest has always been for authenticity and an organic sound, free from the constraints of commercial labels,” the duo states. “In 'Chiaro Scuro', we let the nuances speak louder. It's an intense dialogue between heaviness and groove, the explicit and the subtle.”

His work emerges from a territory where the organic and the symbolic engage in a silent, almost ritualistic dialogue—with an elegant tension between control and fluidity. The visual structures often suggest growth, expansion, and interconnection, as if each element were linked by an invisible logic.
Its aesthetic engages with the world of urban art, but carries a symbolic sophistication that transcends traditional graffiti. There are echoes of ancestral cultures, especially in the way symbols are incorporated: not as ornamentation, but as portals of meaning.
A native of Rio Grande do Sul, now living in Florianópolis, Xadek is a graphic designer by profession and a draftsman by passion. He is more interested in expressive forms, uncontrolled stains, and crooked lines than in academic virtuosity, with influences ranging from Uderzo and Manara to Crumb, Frank Miller, and Sergio Toppi.
