In the first half of November, the CurtaDoc Showcase – Documentary Film in Education It will feature programming in cultural and educational spaces in Greater Florianópolis. Conceived by the production company. CounterpointThe initiative decentralizes the region's audiovisual culture, bringing films and discussions to municipalities surrounding the capital. All activities are free.

The events agenda begins this Tuesday (4) and continues on the 5th, 11th, 13th and 14th of November in cultural and educational spaces in São Pedro de Alcântara. The program includes free sessions, debates, workshops and the EducaDoc Seminar, carried out in partnership with the Center for Childhood, Communication, Culture and Art (NICA) of the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC)In addition to local events, there will be traveling exhibitions in Águas Mornas, Santo Amaro da Imperatriz, and Antônio Carlos, expanding the reach of the Exhibition to schools and communities in the region.

The program brings together Brazilian short films that portray the country in its multiple dimensions – social, environmental and cultural, addressing themes such as human rights, social justice, intangible heritage, agroecology, the environment and collective memory.

The EducaDoc Seminar, the main training activity, will feature prominent names in film education and research: Gilka Girardello, Monica Fantin – professors from the Postgraduate Program in Education/UFSC, coordinators of Nica and José Douglas Alves dos Santos[Name], PhD in Education and film scholar, will discuss the role of audiovisual language in teacher training and contemporary pedagogical practices. Aimed at educators in the public school system, the seminar seeks to bring cinema closer to the classroom, promoting critical thinking, dialogue, and imagination as educational tools.

To promote inclusion, the CurtaDoc Film Festival will hold an accessible session on November 11th at [location]. Santa Catarina Association for the Integration of the Blind (Acic), in Florianópolis, with live audio description.

The closing ceremony, scheduled for November 14th, will include an awards ceremony for the films and a musical performance open to the community of São Pedro de Alcântara.

“Brazilian documentaries reveal the richness and diversity of our country, from social struggles to expressions of nature. They are works that connect us with the environment, popular culture, and human rights. Bringing these films to the interior is also about strengthening cultural identity and fostering a sense of belonging,” adds Lícia Brancher, creator and coordinator of the CurtaDoc Film Festival.

This project is funded by the Catarinense Cinema Award – Special Edition Paulo Gustavo Law/2023, with support from the Catarinense Cultural Foundation (FCC), the Government of the State of Santa Catarina, the Ministry of Culture, and the Federal Government. Support also comes from the municipalities and Municipal Education Secretariats of São Pedro de Alcântara, Águas Mornas, Santo Amaro da Imperatriz, and Antônio Carlos, and the State Secretariat of Education of Santa Catarina. The project is produced by Contraponto, an audiovisual production company with over 20 years of experience in Florianópolis.

Programming in São Pedro de Alcântara

The EducaDoc Seminar will be held in the auditorium of the City Council of São Pedro de Alcântara, located at Praça Leopoldo Kretzer, 1. The theme will be "Documentary cinema in education: art, culture and memory in teacher training".

On Tuesday (4)The event will begin with a conversation with Gilka Girardello from 9:00 to 11:00 AM. From 11:30 AM to 12:15 PM, there will be the opening session of the CurtaDoc Showcase, featuring five Brazilian short films. Finally, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, there will be a workshop entitled "Thinking about cinema as a way of accessing the world, a gaze that learns to see" with José Douglas Alves dos Santos.

Wednesday (5) It will begin with a conversation with Monica Fantin, from 9 to 11 am, and will continue with: a short documentary screening session, from 11:30 am to 12:15 pm, and the "EducaDoc" workshop, with José Douglas Alves dos Santos, from 14 to 17 pm.

Traveling tours: sessions for schools

The project's first itinerant event will be in Águas Mornas, at the City Council Auditorium. The session will take place at... Wednesday (5), from 8:30 am to 9:50 pm.

The program will continue next week. Monday (10)From 13:30 PM to 17:30 PM, the CurtaDoc – Community Showcase will take place, with a session for a group of mothers in São Pedro de Alcântara.

Na Tuesday (11)From 14 PM to 16 PM, the Accessible Session will take place in the Acic auditorium, featuring five short films, two of which will have live audio description. And in Wednesday (12)From 13:30 PM to 17:30 PM, there will be a new session of the CurtaDoc – Community Showcase, this time aimed at senior citizens.

Na Thursday (13)In Santo Amaro da Imperatriz, activities take place from 8:00 AM to 9:20 AM and from 10:00 AM to 11:20 AM. On the same day, from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM, in São Pedro de Alcântara, there will be a session of the CurtaDoc – Community Showcase for teachers and students.

Already in Friday (14)In Antônio Carlos, there will be activities from 8:00 AM to 9:20 AM. Also on Friday, from 1:30 PM to 5:30 PM, another session of the CurtaDoc – Community Showcase will be held for teachers and students. Finally, the closing ceremony will take place from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM in the City Council auditorium, with an awards ceremony, screening of the winning films, and a musical performance.
