Hiring in the betting and gaming sector in Brazil increased by 37% between January and April this year. The data comes from consultancy Michael Page, which compared the numbers with the same period in 2023. The growth follows the regulation of sports betting, approved in December last year.

The most valuable vacancies are concentrated in leadership positions, aiming at operations management. Positions in the areas of finance, marketing and compliance are the highest priority, especially for candidates who already have experience in the gaming sector. Salaries for these senior management positions can range from R$20 to R$45.

The explosion in demand for online sports betting and casino games has also increased the need for skilled professionals in several other operational areas of these businesses. Customer service, software development and digital marketing are some of the main roles recruited to expand each site’s operations.

Employment on the rise in Brazil

The growth in jobs generated by sports betting companies follows the numbers of employment on the rise in Brazil. According to data from the Ministry of Labor, 958 thousand jobs with formal contracts were created in the first four months of 2024. Compared to the same period last year, the increase is 33,3%.

In April alone, the balance was 240 thousand formal jobs. It is the highest mark for the month since the beginning of the new Caged historical series, in 2020, leaving behind the 205,6 thousand vacancies opened in 2022.

The Carboniferous Region follows the national trend. The monthly average of new jobs exceeded 1,1 thousand vacancies per month from January to April. In total, 4.628 jobs were created with a formal contract. All municipalities had positive results compared to 2023, with Criciúma being the one that generated the most jobs (1.812).

Next step is the regulation of casinos

The increase in job openings in the sports betting market is an important argument for supporters of another proposal. After the approval in the Federal Senate of Law 14.790/2023, which stipulated the rules for the operation of betting companies in the country, the next step is the regulation of casinos in Brazil.

The bill that will once again allow casinos, bingo and other games of chance, such as jogo do bicho, is one of the hot topics for the second half of the year in the Senate. Approved by a narrow margin in the House's Constitution and Justice Committee, the proposal will now be voted on in plenary. There is no specific date for this to happen.

Public opinion and which bookmakers stand out

In addition to the impact on job creation, gambling regulation also has implications for public opinion. Two studies by ENV Media sought to understand the viewpoint of bettors and discover which bookmakers stand out as market leaders.

Research conducted in February on the regulation of games showed that 84% of players supported the creation of a license for betting sites to operate in Brazil. 74% also approved the government's initiative to sanction legislation for online games with real money.

The performance of brands in the market was analyzed in another survey, considering factors such as visibility, market share and estimated organic traffic. Betfair, Betano and KTO were the websites of bet online who stood out in leadership.
