The project's overall objective is to promote film culture with an emphasis on films by African directors, African productions and filmed in Africa. It aims to promote the artistic and cultural wealth of the African continent through the screening of films and to promote conversations and debates about African film production and representations of Africa in cinema. Meetings are held monthly and are open to the general public.

Africa in Cinema is curated by researchers Alex Brandão, Leonardo Breda and Renata Dariva from LEHAf/UFSC, a laboratory coordinated by Prof. Dr. Sílvio Marcus de Souza Correa. The film club has institutional support from the Alliance Française of Florianópolis and the Santa Catarina Foundation of Culture (FCC), through the Museum of Image and Sound of Santa Catarina (MIS/SC).
