Woodcuts by J. Borges

exposição j.borges

J.Borges is considered the wood engraver most recognized Brazilian in the world. At the age of 29, he decided he would write cordel. That's when he did The Meeting of Two Cowboys in the Sertão of Petrolina, woodcut by Master Dila, which sold more than five thousand copies in two months.

His engravings have already been used in the opening of the soap opera Rock Santeiro, and has already exhibited in several museums and galleries around the world. In 2002, he was one of thirteen artists chosen to illustrate the annual United Nations calendar, with his woodcut Life in the Forest, which opens the year on the calendar.

At 89 years old, José Francisco Borges shows all his art in Florianópolis, in a beautiful exhibition that promotes and celebrates art with truly Brazilian traits.
