The story of 'Hansel and Gretel' told by the Brothers Grimm, as we know it, is a sterilized version for the middle class of the 19th century. Our text, adapted for children's theater by teacher Maura Soares, tells the adventure of the little siblings Hansel and Gretel, grandchildren of a poor woodcutter, who live together in the heart of the forest.
One day, in an attempt to help their grandfather, the two brothers, without warning, leave home in the morning to look for fruits and vegetables in the forest. During the walk, Joãozinho scatters bread crumbs, which would serve to mark the way back home - the most well-known and characteristic detail of the work. However, the crumbs are all eaten by the little animals of the forest.
As a result, the two brothers end up lost and, in an attempt to find their way, they see a house made entirely of candy and chocolate. Hungry, they begin to eat the treats until they are taken in by the owner of the house, who turns out to be an evil and rude witch.
