The Monument to Lauro Muller was inaugurated in July 1969 and highlights the various spheres of political activity of Lauro Severiano Müller (1863-1926), who, together with Hercílio Luz, composed the leadership of the Catarinense Republican Party in the First Republic.
In the place now occupied by the square, there was Fort São Luís, one of the fortifications that made up the defense system of the island of Santa Catarina.
