Caiacangamirim beach

Caiacangamirim Beach

Because it is confined to a territorial property managed by the Florianópolis Air Base, Praia de Caiacangamirim has restricted access only to residents and military personnel, so it is popularly known as Praia da Base Aérea.

With approximately 1.500 meters in length and about 5 meters of strip of light, slightly yellow sand, it has a semi-silty sea bottom, typical of the inland sea of Bahia, with small waves and weak currents. It is a good region for fishing, with small fish, shrimp and a lot of cockles. It has a small wharf for docking maneuvers and training boats from the Air Base.

The name Caiacangamirim derives from the Tupi-Guarani and means beach located next to “Ponta de Terra” over the sea, with a small monkey's head (mirim). The adjective “small” is to distinguish it from another similar Ponta, further south.
