John Paul Getty III, the 16-year-old grandson of American oil tycoon John Paul Getty, is kidnapped. Desperate John's mother, Gail Harris, asks the boy's grandfather for financial help, which she refused. The kidnappers then decide to send the boy's ear to the press to force the family to speed up the payment of the ransom, in the amount of 3 million dollars.
