The construction of the church began when, in 1760, the image of Nossa Senhora da Lapa arrived in Ribeirão da Ilha. At that time, only a simple chapel was built to protect the image. Gradually, expansions in the construction gave shape to the Church of Nossa Senhora da Lapa, completed in 1806. Externally, the characteristics of the XNUMXth century construction are intact to this day. This makes the Church very important historically. Inside, many renovations have taken place. The temple was altered and paint covered over XNUMX-year-old paintings that stamped the walls and ceiling.
