Thermal Tourism

Santo amaro da imperatriz

It is impossible to talk about tourism in Florianópolis without remembering the hydromineral resorts, internationally recognized for their therapeutic quality, Santo amaro da imperatriz, in Greater Florianópolis. The thermal waters, considered one of the best in the world, with a temperature of up to 40º C, are a “holy” remedy for those with rheumatism, insomnia, nervous tension and hair loss. They were discovered in 1818 by hunters, in lands of the then parish of São José. Later, in 1845, Dom Pedro II and Tereza Cristina visited the place and were so enthusiastic about the thermal waters of the region that they had a building built on the site, the current Hotel Caldas da Imperatriz, today municipalized. The city also has the high standard five star Plaza Caldas da Imperatriz.

Warm Waters

In Águas Mornas, also located in Greater Florianópolis, the “miracles of healing” provided by the fountains have been propagated since the middle of the last century. The origin of this water is a Triassic spill that invaded the entire region of Águas Mornas and Santo Amaro da Imperatriz. There are two fountains that supply 2,5 million liters of water per day, at a constant temperature of 39º C. The 15-minute baths are indicated against rheumatism, arthritis, arthrosis, drops and rheumatic pain anywhere of the body. They are also recommended to improve digestive functions, renal apparatus, nervous system and for the treatment of the skin.

For those thinking about having the treatment or even spending a few days of leisure with thermal baths, the mentioned cities have some excellent accommodation options.
