The Inflammable Festival reaches its third edition, with the sponsorship of the Catarinense Cinema Award, Catarinense Culture Foundation, Government of Santa Catarina and support from the Florianópolis Museum - Sérgio Grando. The event will take place from April 4th to 7th, 2024 in the Gilberto Gerlach cinema room at the Integrated Culture Center (CIC) and in the MIS-SC exhibition space, both in Florianópolis. The program on the last day of the Festival will feature a session in honor of Celso dos Santos, producer, teacher, filmmaker and creator of the FAM-Festival de Audiovisual do Mercosul, who recently passed away.
The Duo Strangloscope, composed of Florianópolis-based filmmakers Cláudia Cárdenas and Rafael Schlichting, signed the artistic project and curatorship of Festival Inflamável, and Maria Emília Azevedo is the executive director in a production by Dois Plátanos and co-production by Câmera Olho Filmes. This is a unique initiative in the State of Santa Catarina, as it is the only Santa Catarina film festival to screen films in Super 8 and 16mm. Analog-photochemical formats, which for most people seem to have been extinguished, are returning with full force in cinema productions around the world.
Development laboratories are resurfacing, productions of advertising and fashion films, surfing and other sports films, wedding films, as well as commercial and experimental cinema films are proliferating in all corners of the planet. Films made in different film sizes move the production chain in Super 8 and 16mm.
Choosing to offer a festival of experimental shorts in Single Take of Super 8, the Inflammable Festival in this edition expands the screening, performance and installation sessions to works also made in 16mm.
In this third edition, 25 experimental short films were made, sponsored by Festival Inflamável, in Super 8's Single Take. Completely free of charge, visual artists, filmmakers and audiovisual technicians were selected for the third edition of the Workshop for making shorts in take only Super 8 event at the Inflammable Festival, which took place in November 2023 on the premises of the Florianópolis Museum. The films were sent for development and scanning and will be part of the competitive Super 8 projection sessions during the screening event.
To form the panel of judges for this third edition, the festival will count on the presence of Ana Villanueva, an Argentine filmmaker whose work encompasses experimental cinema, video, interactive installations and sound objects. Ana Villanueva will also offer, free of charge to selected participants, the Multiple Projections in Artistic Installations workshop, a workshop on creating installations in Super 8 during the Inflammable Festival.
Another presence on the jury will be that of experimental cinema director from Santa Catarina Moira Lacowicz, an experimental filmmaker who has been awarded at national and international festivals, who will give an expanded cinema performance during the program. To complete the jury, experimental photographer Samantha Ortega was invited, who will also offer, free of charge to those selected, the archive cinema workshop "Writing a poem of images pasting traces" during the opening days of the Festival.
The results of the workshops to be offered on April 4th and 5th will be displayed in the exhibition room of the MIS - Museu da Imagem e do Som of the Centro Integrado de Cultura de Florianópolis.

* Performance Palimpsest by Moira Lacowicz and Francisco Silveira, * Performance Orogenesis, by Samanta Ortega,
* Premiere session in Brazil of the Argentine documentary feature film "El pensaiento nacional", by Paulo Pécora who will be present and offer a masterclass on the making of his film,
* Premiere session in Florianópolis of the award-winning experimental documentary short film Aqui Onde Tudo Acaba, by Cláudia Cárdenas and Juce Filho.
* Awards session for competing films in different categories.
* Exhibition of experimental filmic audiovisual installation in the exhibition room of the Museum of Image and Sound.
