“Lady Z” exhibition at Galeria + Arte

Rico Mendonça shares his works in the exclusive exhibition “Mrs Z", at Gallery + Art, at Shopping Itaguaçu until the 3rd of April. The artist, in partnership with the Juarez Machado Institute, arranges a meeting with himself to reveal another of his facets. The works reveal an excerpt from his career, especially the complexity of mourning the death of his mother and the uncertainties caused by the isolation of the pandemic, thus representing on canvas the expectations, pain, love, victory and hope in the face of of an eternal portal of life.

For the artist, isolation was a process of healing and creation, which brought to the scene a mythological being, a woman with many forms, multiple, with different identities and inspired by Dona Zeza, his mother. All of Rico's creations carry the way of dressing, the poetry and the culture of clothing, as the personification of identities. The hair, short or long, in its variations, the strength of the construction and deconstruction of femininity in all its power, the awareness of an authorial mythology, which allows a contemporary reading, without leaving aside the classic traits and colors such as gold , resignifying a symbol of strength and power through the ages.

The “Z” women, as the artist calls them, are inserted in spaces of nature, with lightness, focused on contemplation and reflection, as if they were waiting for something to arrive. For the artist, each woman has her own style, lives, thinks and desires differently, but they all end up meeting in their joys and afflictions, creating an ancestral and futuristic human identity. The form is that of beauty on the outside, on the inside only they know what's going on and how they hide their scars, a poetization of aesthetics, which is sometimes revealed by a look of distress.

The entire collection was created on A4 paper, with two ink textures. Using a high-tech printer, the designs were enlarged and then transferred to pure cotton fabric, maintaining the original nuances. In addition, all drawings were repainted and finished with gold and silver in meticulous strokes to create the medieval and intuitive aspects of each work, a process that the artist discovered over time and defined as his technique.

The Itaguaçu + Arte Project honors and promotes local artists, always curated by Chris Ribeiro, in each monthly exhibition. The exhibition “Senhora Z”, features exclusive works, and is open for visitation until April 3, on Floor L 2, with free admission. For more information, check out the mall's social media.
