The Cine Paredão Project exhibits the film for free and outdoors The Salt of the Earth (1954), by the American director Herbert J. Biberman. With open-air cinema sessions, the project Cinema Paredão aims to socialize, exchange and expand various audiovisual manifestations, seeking alternative productions that provide thinking and reflecting on cinema as an art in constant modification, passing through different perspectives, times and places around the world. Synopsis of the film Salt of the Earth: the feature narrates a strike by miners of Mexican origin in New Mexico. With the exception of five actors, the cast is made up of non-professionals, mostly participants in the actual strike. The film is prophetic in depicting the participation of the wives of oppressed workers, an anticipation of the women's emancipation movement that would emerge a decade later. In a context of social injustice, a family drama unfolds between Ramon and Esperanza Quintero, a miner of Mexican origin and his wife. During the strike, the roles of Ramon and Esperanza are reversed: a writ of mandamus against male strikers makes women take over picket activities, leaving men to do household chores. Women evolve from a position of subordination to equality, allied in pursuit of the common goal.
