A Badesc Cultural Foundation Catastrophe Cinema Show, which has a partnership with World Cinema Project (Ufsc), presents a brief selection of disaster films produced in the 1970s, considered the golden age of the genre. July 19th, Thursday, the film will be shown Airport, by George Seaton. The film tells the story of when a pilot tries to make a forced landing when a psychopath threatens to blow up the plane while a huge blizzard disrupts the airport's operation. On July 26th, Thursday, the feature film will be shown The Hindenburg airship, by Robert Wise. Synopsis: In 1937, the airship Hindenburg, one of the symbols of Nazi power, catches fire on its way to the United States and most of its crew survives. Disaster films, audiovisual narratives that address natural disasters or major accidents, have become one of the most explored genres in Hollywood cinema. With scenes of action and drama, productions of this genre explore individual and social political and psychological aspects in the face of the need to survive in disaster scenarios.
