! - This event/schedule has already happened - !

The next session of the Cinema Mundo Project displays Gattaca: genetic experience science fiction directed by Andrew Nickol. At the time, the film was elected by NASA as the most plausible science fiction, awarded at four European festivals. The film is a dystopia about eugenics in a time not so distant from ours. The session is held No. Elke Hering Auditorium da UFSC University Library, and counts on the comments Luiza Mazzola e Rafael Muniz.

Synopsis of the film: What if you could be controlled by your genetics? If to get a job you needed to have a certain genotype? To enter Gattaca, a corporation that givesdevelops research and advanced technology in astronomy, a genetic propensity favorable to an individual's physical and psychic health is required. For those who do not have favorable genetic data, there are jobs given to the lowest social class in this new social stratification, the class of those who do not have a healthy and intellectually productive genotype. Vincent Freeman was conceived biologically, that is, the “best” genes were not chosen for conception in a laboratory. Destined to live as a janitor, Vincent makes a dangerous choice to live his dream of working as an astronaut, by illegal means pretending to be who he is not, a member of the elite.
