Debate on soundtracks – 2nd Contemporary Egyptian Film Festival

This week's highlight of 2nd Contemporary Egyptian Film Festival is the debate on Thursday (13), at 17 pm, on the soundtrack. Sample online runs until August 23, with completely free access.

The musicians will participate in the live Tamer Karawanegyptian and Andrew Abujamra, Brazilian. They will talk about their experiences on numerous soundtracks and exchange ideas about working here and in Egypt.

The guests

Tamer Karawan born in Cairo, in 1969, he composed music for more than 70 works, including feature films and documentaries for cinema and series for television. He studied mechanical engineering at the American University in Cairo until 1991, then studied music at the Royal Music Academy (London), worked as a radio editor, documentary director until he debuted as a soundtrack composer in 1998 with El Madina, by Youssry Nasrallah.

Andrew Abujamra, 55 years old, from São Paulo, is a singer, composer, guitarist, percussionist, pianist, music producer, actor, theater and cinema director. Among the more than 70 soundtracks composed for the cinema, there are those created for the films Carandiruseven-headed beast2 rabbits e Ratimbum Castle.

This week's schedule

From this week will be shown at the show the long messages from the sea (2010), by Daoud Abdel Sayed, which received the awards for Best Director, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor at the Egyptian Film Festival in Cairo; the documentary I have a photo (2017), by Mohamed Zedan, which tells the story of Egyptian cinema through the trajectory of Motawe Eweis, an extra who has worked in about a thousand films, from the 40s to today; the comedy don't kiss me (2017), by Ahmad Amer, a mockumentary about a young Egyptian director who faces great challenges shooting a kissing scene for his first film in an increasingly conservative society; and the biggest blockbuster in the history of Egyptian cinema, the horror film the blue elephant 2 (2019), by Marwan Hamed.
