Author of several themes that became classics within the style, Montgomery was known for using his thumb to pull the strings of the instrument, and not a pick, as is common. It is said that this style was due to the fact that the musician practiced the guitar at home and, in order not to wake up his young children, he got used to using his finger. With that, Montgomery built an authentic and unorthodox sound. He died young, at age 45, at the height of his career.
