Ishmael Schonhorst mediates the August edition of the meeting. The theme of the meeting will be the book the steppe, Anton Chekov. The plot revolves around the journey of a boy who leaves to study in another city and, for that, travels for a few days through the vast Russian steppe. But it also presents the multiple character of the text: an account of experience, a fictional narrative, a study of human types, the painting of nature, as well as portraits of economic activities, social relations and ongoing behavioral changes.
The Penguin Reading Club is an action of the Reading Incentive Nucleus of the Education Department of Companhia das Letras. There are currently 78 active clubs in 23 Brazilian cities.
