Shows Shadows That Haunt: Expressionism in German Cinema

! - This event/schedule has already happened - !

Sesc holds the show Shadows that Haunt — Expressionism in German Cinema, a good opportunity to get to know the expressionist movement better in cinema, which presents some of the greatest works of the seventh art.

Expressionism had its heyday in the 1920s, in a Germany ruined by the First World War, and which was characterized by the use of fantastic and frightening images, while exposing a society shrouded in a desolate and mechanistic scenario.

On display, nine productions by cult film directors: Fritz Lang, Murnau, Paul Leni, Paul Wegener and Robert Wiene. The classics are characterized by the use of an exaggerated choreography (mise-en-scène); cartoon and theatrical interpretation; distorted scenarios; and the use of folkloric, literary, dark and fanciful themes, which guarantee the development of terror.

All sessions will be commented by the Political Images Research Group of the State University of Santa Catarina (Udesc).

  Start: 23/02/2015 23:00

  End: 02/03/2015 02:00
