On the occasion, there will be representatives of the 38 cities, and the 70 associations that make up the Deliberative Council of the Nucleus of Azorean Studies - NEA/UFSC, communities and authorities, in addition to the 12 awarded this year's Trophy. The ceremony also prepares for the 22nd Festa da Cultura Açoriana de Santa Catarina, in addition to formalizing the launch of the festivities.
The trophies are named after the nine islands of the Azores Archipelago, with the 10th Trophy, called Santa Catarina Island, affectionately known as the tenth island. Created in 1996, the distinction honors 10 personalities or institutions every year, each with a trophy alluding to the name of an island in the Azorean Archipelago: São Miguel, Pico, Terceira, São Jorge, Graciosa, Santa Maria, Faial, Corvo and Flores .
