O World Cinema Project, which shows films with comments after the sessions, addresses the dystopian theme by showing the film 1984 (Nineteen Eighty-Four, UK, 1984), directed by Michael Radford and based on the classic novel by George Orwell. Film Synopsis: London, 1984. The United Kingdom is under a repressive regime, controlled with an iron fist by the party. There are TV screens everywhere, which serve as the government's eyes to see what citizens do. Winston Smith (John Hurt) lives alone and works for one of the government departments, manipulating information so that the news is positive for the population. Until one day, he becomes interested in a colleague, Julia (Suzanna Hamilton), who takes him to the outskirts of town. They start to have a relationship, something forbidden by the party, which wants to eliminate libido in the population. In a closely monitored society, there is no escaping Big Brother.
