Considered a prodigy, as he gained prominence in the world jazz scene at just 22 years old, guitarist Mike Stern is the honoree of the edition of Sixth Jazz AF #32, with a presentation conducted on May 19 by musicians Murilo Morello (guitar), Tiê Pereira (bass) and Mauro Borghezan (drums).
Stern was born in Boston in 1953 and at age 22 joined Blood, Sweat & Tears, with whom he played for three years before joining Billy Cobham's jazz fusion band. In 1981 he was recruited as a guitarist by Miles Davis on his return after a five-year absence. After leaving Davis' band he participated in several projects with Stan Getz, Pat Martino, David Sanborn, Steps Ahead, Michael Brecker, among other greats. With three Grammy nominations, he remains active as one of the masters of Jazz Fusion.
