The opening of the Capital's Christmas program, organized by CDL of Florianópolis with the support of the City Hall, starts at 17:30 pm on Cathedral Square with presentation of band of the 63rd Infantry Battalion – Army. After handing over the key to the city to Santa Claus on the steps of the Cathedral, at 19:45 pm, the celebration continues with the lighting of the Christmas lights at 20:15 pm, to the sound of the beautiful songs of the Bom Jesus high school choir in the windows of Cruz e Sousa Palace. Ending the evening's program, the students of Colégio Bom Jesus present the musical The Miracle of Christmas com Live Nativity Scene. The musical celebrates the joy of the birth of Jesus, with the traditions of this time and the anxiety of children waiting for Christmas. The play features singers, actors, dancers and violinists from the school.
