Coming to the tenth exhibition of the year, at Galeria Digital O Sítio, we are pleased to welcome, for an artistic residency, the artist and researcher of cinema and new media, André Parente. André will begin his artistic residency, here at our Digital Atelier, from September 10th, preparing the exhibition installations and the Zunido performance. The opening of the exhibition and the live performance will take place on September 19th, a Thursday, from 19:30 pm. A Buzz performance starts at 20:30 pm and the exhibition is open to visitors until October 12th. Sound Performance: buzzer In this sound performance work, I use several buzzers. The bullroarer is a turned tablet, in the shape of a fish. At one end of the buzzer there is a hole through which a string passes. We hold the string to make the buzzers rotate, which have a deep and mysterious sound. In the performance, each buzzer is rotated and recorded live, and fixed to the wall forming a mandala. Buzzers are probably the oldest known sound instruments. Buzzers found in Ukraine date back 18 years. They are found in ancestral cultures on five continents, and generally with the same functions: communication, hunting and rituals linked to fertility.
