The play Peer Gynt, staged in 1867, is a classic by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen (1828 – 1906) and features the adventures of a young man who leaves his village to conquer the world. The production is freely adapted for the Brazilian universe with the name O Rei do Mundo – Uma Comedia Supernatural and written and directed by Roberto Alvim. The plot is a supernatural comedy that tells the story of Pedro Peregrino, from his childhood to old age. Liar, irresponsible, selfish and unscrupulous, the character wants to become rich and powerful, in addition to being willing to go over everything and everyone to achieve his goal: to be King of the World. The narrative follows him through different landscapes and encounters with magical characters, who help him discover his strange destiny, and reveals a selfish view of the world that, consequently, results in loneliness. With tones of acidity and drama, the montage paints a portrait of contemporary Brazil. The idea is for the audience to see themselves, identify themselves and find new ways of living and facing the dark side of the country with all its corruption and violence. The play stars Eduardo Sterblitch and also features Louise D`Tuani, Diego Becker, Claudinei Brandão and Thiago Brianti.
