Homage to the Trickster

! - This event/schedule has already happened - !

The play is an adaptation of the original text by Chico Buarque, "Ópera do Malandro", being a final montage of the Creative Processes discipline, of the Performing Arts Course at UFSC. Set in Florianópolis nowadays, the adaptation gains a little more lightness, without losing the comedy, politics and musicality proposed by Chico Buarque. In the show, the group counts on the presence of Banda Caraudácia in the arrangements and interpretations of the artist's songs.

“Ópera do Malandro” was written in 1978 and premiered the following year in Rio de Janeiro. The text was based on John Gay's “Opera dos Begentes” and the “Threepenny Opera” by Bertold Brecht. In the students’ montage, as well as the pieces that inspire it, they show characters that are present in the most diverse historical and social times: the trickster and his henchmen, the prostitutes and their pimps/pimps, the “men of the law”, among others. Through these characters, corruption, class struggle, gender issues are discussed.
