Rotating Stage: Bring me the head of Lima Barreto

! - This event/schedule has already happened - !

Inspired freely by the work of Lima Barreto (1881-1922), especially the books Diário Intimate and Cemitério dos Vivos, the theatrical monologue Traga-me a Cabeça by Lima Barreto brings together excerpts from memories printed in his works, crisscrossed with free imagination. The fictional text begins shortly after the writer’s death, when eugenicists demand the exhumation of his corpse for an autopsy in order to clarify “how an inferior brain could have produced so many literary works – novels, chronicles, short stories, essays and other books – whether the privilege of noble art and good writing belongs to the superior races?” From this clash with eugenicists, the play shows the various facets of Lima Barreto's personality and genius, his life, his family, madness, alcoholism, racism, his coexistence with poverty, his unrecognized work, his memories and sadness.
