In Japanese the verb shiboru means to squeeze, squeeze, knead. An ancient technique, millenary, which has recently been gaining visibility in the West and more and more adepts. The indigo blue shiboris are the best known but it is possible to work the technique in all other colors. By means of knots, stitches and lashings, certain areas of fabric are protected from the dye, thus creating prints with organic geometric shapes. There is an element of surprise in dyeing so no two shibori are the same – that's where the fun of this technique lies.
Taught by Product Designer, Leticia Jorge, the workshop presents the techniques of how to perform this dyeing in an easy and beautiful way, in which your prints will have a unique and exclusive look, entirely made by you. The event is divided into two parts - Theoretical class (where dyeing techniques, cold dyeing, presentation of materials and tools are presented, what is Shibori, etc.) and practical class (experiences in cold dyeing [technique and result]. Hands-on moment, knowledge sharing, preparation of practical materials and tools).
