Synopsis: Adèle Hugo, daughter of writer Victor Hugo, is abandoned by Lieutenant Pinson, with whom she was hopelessly in love. In 1861, he leaves the country to serve at the base in Halifax, Canada, and he no longer remembers Adèle. She torments him to the point of announcing their marriage in a local newspaper, causing him to break up with the daughter of a judge. Sick, without resources, she undertakes a relentless pursuit that results in her own madness.
