Synopsis:

The film (as well as the book) tells the story of Martin Eden, a young low-income sailor who falls in love with Elena, a bourgeois girl, and decides to pursue his dream of becoming a writer. When he starts living with aristocratic society and feels out of place from everything that is part of his essence, the boy realizes that there is no way to go back to what he used to be. While trying to publish some blockbuster work, Martin gets involved in socialist circles, putting him at odds with Elena and her bourgeois world.
