Synopsis: The nature of memory as a birthplace and the understanding of personal mythologies. Both a mystical reflection and a personal story, chronicle of a city and disordered post-Freudian proletarian fantasy, My Winnipeg blends local myth with childhood trauma. All narrated by Maddin's inspired and often amusing energy. “Charm me in your own way” was executive producer Michael Burns' request, and leaves it to Maddin to explore the charm of his hometown. Blending animation, log files and reenactments, the director created an extraordinary visual homage bearing the stamp of his original style.
