Pixinguinha, father of MPB. A misunderstood genius and far ahead of his time, his importance was only recognized many years later. The life of the famous musician, a lower-middle-class black boy, is told from his first anthological performances on the flute; the composition of his many masterpieces, including “Carinhoso”, the true Brazilian popular anthem, which turned 100 in 2017/18; his 6-month stay in Paris in 1922 with the resounding success of his “Eight Batutas” ensemble; his arrangements as the first music director for American Victor in the 30s, his decline and resurgence in the 40s.
