Bar do Arante

A beachside restaurant that has such an interesting history that it has become a real attraction. Created in 1958, Bar do Arante began as a small shop for fishermen, then known as Bodega do Arante. In the mid-1960s, the Bodega started serving fried fish. At that time, it was common for students from other cities and states to camp in the Pântano do Sul, an area that was sparsely inhabited until then. There, they ate fish and drank the free pinga, offered by Arante himself. Gradually, the place became a point of reference. Students began to leave messages on the walls for friends who would arrive, booking a place to meet or giving the location where they were camping. The craze of leaving notes on the walls took hold and today the papers cover all the walls and ceiling of the bar. It is estimated that there are more than 70 thousand tickets. The bar is a typical gastronomic reference of the island, based on Seafood. You can still find that traditional house cachaça, Mata Bicho, produced by hand at a mill in the region. Address: End of Highway SC-406, at the beach access. Contact: 3237-7022. Opening hours: in high season, every day for lunch and dinner.
