Marieta's Speeches: The Feminine Aesthetics

! - This event/schedule has already happened - !

The first meeting of Marieta's lines - series of meetings promoted by the Marieta Institute, to discuss Human Rights - has the theme The feminine aesthetic: impositions and social expectations. On the occasion, two speakers, Cristina Colombo Nunes e Sharlene Melanie, tell their stories and visions about the representation of the feminine throughout history, art and photography. Also present at the event are the Marietas thrift store.  Cristina Colombo Nunes is a professor of History and Evolution of Design, linked to the Communication and Expression Center at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC). At the meeting, she gives the lecture What did Helena de Troia want?: The social language of the female body. The lecture takes as an example the legendary beauty of Helena de Troia - who is still remembered, but little is known about what this woman thought, dreamed of or believed - to address the changes in representations of the female body in the arts and advertising. The construction of an ideal of female beauty arising from sociopolitical scenarios that sometimes disregard the voice and will of women is discussed. Sharlene Melanie is a designer and discovered herself as a photographer only after starting to teach Photography for the Design course at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC). About her speech: With her teaching experience, Sharlene realized that her students were not enough with theories and techniques, but needed a new look at the world. Thus, she developed dynamics that contextualized socio-political issues to awaken more empathy, responsibility and involvement in student projects. After realizing this need in the field of teaching Design, she created a photographic project called From Body to Movement which portrays nude and semi-nude women and invites them to take ownership of their bodies and recognize who they are, regardless of their physical appearance. The work done in Do Corpo ao Movimento is also exposed on the day of the lectures.
